Web Quest

posted Tuesday, 10 June 2008

I had never seen or understood what a web quest before today.  Professor Dodge’s explanation of how to create a web quest was very clear and concise.  I found the ones that I reviewed today to be very interesting and straight forward (something that is necessary for me as I am not that computer literate). I think that this would be a great addition to our Global Cultural History units.  We are currently studying Egypt and the students could do a project related to the art or gods and goddesses of Egypt.  I would create a rubric similar to the ones that I observed on the web, assessing the students research skills, writing skills and participation in the assignment.  This is certainly something I will consider doing with my class next year!

Jess, I'm surprised you and Peter have never heard of webquests before! Egypt seems like a broad enough topic that you could do lots of different types of webquests, or you could create one really in-depth webquest. I think your kids would love it!

Jess,

I actually had never heard of a webquest either before a few weeks ago so don't feel bad. I like how you are always thinking of how you can use the new tools we are learning about in your own classroom in order to differentiate instruction and change it up a little bit. It shows your dedication to your kids and to becoming a better, more engaging teacher.

Jess,

Although I to, had never heard the offical term web quest used before. The idea that professor Dodge presented seemed straight forward to me. I view a web quest as an online research project. I agree with the comment Stacy about you always attemping to make connections to the class that you are currently working in. At the same time I felt sad that I was not, but I know it is because I do not know what school, or grade level I will be working with. Continue making connections.

Jess,

I had never heard of them either, I too felt the same way about them after the presentation. In my blog I wrote about using them for more than just an entire lesson; using them for review or even for fun. I will be doing one as an extra assignment for this class; I will forward it to you. Let me know what you think. I think your yearlong curriculum of gods and goddesses is a perfect place to add something like a webquest; it could be based on certain artifacts that pertain to precise gods, which come from a specific region, and go on and on. Let me know if you are interested, it might be fun?
