Response to George Siemens Presentation

posted Tuesday, 20 May 2008
I somewhat enjoyed this presentation.  I found the concept that Mr. Siemens was giving a power point presentation over the internet to be an effective way of posting information.  It was very helpful to have the graphics to follow along as he spoke about connectivism.  He certainly made some valid points, such as the majority of schools choosing not to change teaching methods.  I see the importance of technology in the classroom, especially as the world progresses.  I must say though, that I found this presentation to be a bit wordy at times.

Jessamyn, Could you elaborate a little more on your thoughts about the topics within the Siemens presentation? For example, he discusses ways of looking at knowledge and definitions from a different perspective. What did you think about his point of "It's Not All Good?" In Mr. Siemens' wordiness, in what areas did you feel he gave too much information? - I ask, because I am a little unsure of your point on that one.

What is your reaction to Siemens' statement: "Content is often the by-product of the learning process, not the starting point?"

Jess,

Yes I agree with you about the presentation was alittle wordy, and perhaps he was talking to a different audience. But some of his ideas challenged they way teachers, and curriculum gage learning, and technology to fill in the gaps on missing information. Let's face it we all use technology to help us. The internet as revolutionalized the speed in with new learning can take place. It is instant.

  • He presents many idea in his article. But if you can grasp hold to one, you have done something.

Jess,

I thought it was cool that Siemens was giving a power point presentation over the internet was cool too. I had never seen it done that way. I was wondering if you got a chance to read my blog on this video, I spoke about the topic of networks; I would love to know how you feel about this? I agree that the presentation was long, but I really found the information to be valuable.
