1st Grade Podcasting

posted Wednesday, 23 April 2008
So...Today on my lunch break I sat down to do my homework, listening to the podcasts and completely enjoyed the 1st Grade one on ants.  In fact, we had technology today and instead of having the kids be creative on Kidspiration as we had planned, We listened to the podcast as a class.  My kids not only learned a whole lot more about ants, but they also understood the concept.  The got the sequence of researching, writing, practicing, and then reading what they wrote as the students recorded the podcast. Many of them thought it was very cool and thought it would be a fun project, whereas others were not interested, maybe because they were just bumming about the fact that they didn't get to go on the computer!

My students also loved the ants podcast. Would you like do this with your class? Ideas on how you might begin to organize for making the podcast? How about student input - does their excitement translate into their participation? I find that my kids love doing podcasts - can be a major crazy time, off task by some, but overall it really pays off. Plus, when you're done, post it on your school website.

Jess,

I also loved the 1st grade Podcast on Ants. I think that is was great for you to show the postcast to your students. It must have been grade for your students to know that the students are were from another first grade class. I know that they wanted to work on the computer after hearing that podcast. Did the students say what type of podcast they wanted to complete.

Jess, So cool, that you were able to listen to the podcast with your students. I loved that podcast as well, I found the students who created it to be SO professional. Do you plan on podcasting in your class at all? Did you get a chance to listen to "I'm bringing vocab back" if not you really should. Let me know what you think.
