After browsing this sight, I would say that the First Grade class I teach is somewhere between Level 1 and Level 2. I did teach a Fourth Grade computers two years ago, and my students were working up to the Level 2 or maybe Level 3 zone.  I feel that I am currently around Level 4b, but hope to continue up the scale. As an observer I have certainly seen people at Level 6.

Jessamyn,

When you taught the 4th grade using computers, was this a computer class in which more than one group of kids came to the lab under your instruction? Or was it you taking your class to the computer lab?

There is certainly a wide range of ability levels in schools per my own observations. I mainly see the lower levels of technology ability, and it is interesting, in my own school, some of the low tech teachers are also some of the finest teachers I have ever observed in action - makes us wonder how and when is technology indicated or mandated to be used.

Jess,

My LoTi is at a level 2. I have never taught and computer class. I am also interested in knowing what information the students were responsible for learning in your computer class. However, I feel that the students that are in my fifth grade class are working between a level one or two. It is hard for me to gage their levels since I do not attend their computer class, and the fact that most of their time in past two months had focused primaryly of state tests.

Jess,

That's great that your kids use computers at such a young age. Do you think it makes them better readers or writers? So cool that you taught a computer class, what type of stuff did you do? A level 6 is pretty up there, the only people I see this high on the continuum at my school are the technology teachers. Thanks for being so candid with us in your blog.
